§681. Capitol security director; qualifications; compensation
A. There shall be a director of capitol security who shall be the chief security officer
for the legislature. The director of capitol security shall be elected by the favorable vote of
a majority of the elected members of each house of the legislature, after having been
interviewed by the Capitol Security Council and recommended for employment by the
council by a majority vote, and shall serve at the pleasure of the legislature. He may be
removed by a majority vote of the elected members of each house of the legislature. Any
vacancy occasioned by death, resignation, or otherwise, which occurs while the legislature
is not in session, shall be filled on a temporary basis by the president of the Senate and the
speaker of the House of Representatives, until such time as the vacancy shall be filled by the
legislature as provided in this Subsection.
B. The director shall have a minimum of ten years of full-time law enforcement
experience. He shall be POST-certified and possess qualifications necessary to be
commissioned as a special officer. He shall not be a member of the legislature.
C. The salary of the director of capitol security shall be recommended by the Capitol
Security Council, and together with all other expenses and salaries of his office necessary to
carry out the duties required pursuant to R.S. 24:682, shall be submitted to the president of
the Senate and the speaker of the House of Representatives for approval.
