What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
LATAN helps people with disabilities statewide to access devices and technology to use at work, home and at school. In the aftermath of the August 2016, the need for our services has doubled! LATAN responded to requests for assistance in shelters as well as in their homes while they are rebuilding. We collaborated with many state agencies to provide services and devices and continue to do so.

Support from State Appropriations is necessary as LATAN helps state agencies, individuals and businesses to access necessary devices for daily use for their family members, employees and students in school systems. Further, the funding supports LATAN's AT demonstration centers, to continue its statewide services and programs, that enhance a person's quality of life and enable them to be successful and as independent as possible. LATAN collaborates with many state agencies including but not limited to Office of Citizens with Developmental Disabilities, Louisiana Rehabilitation Services Workforce Commission and many others who need our services.

This requested funding enable the State to meet the demands of the Louisiana residents who need access to assistive technology, and will allow LATAN to have devices available for demonstration and loan to aid them in determining the device(s) that would work for them prior to purchase. These services save the state thousands of dollars when a state agency such as Louisiana Rehabilitation Services sends clients to LATAN to try devices before the state agency purchases them.

What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
GOAL 1: Individuals with disabilities, older people, family members, service providers, and businesses will be able to try out assistive technology devices before purchase, while their own devices are being repaired, or for other reasons identified by the individuals.
OBJECTIVE:
To provide people with disabilities, older people, family members, service providers, and employers the information, the AT and the hands-on experience necessary to make informed decisions about different devices' abilities to meet their personal needs or the needs of those they work with or employ.

GOAL 2: Individuals with disabilities and others will have options for acquiring assistive technology devices and services.

GOAL 3: Awareness of the benefits of assistive technology for consumers, employers, agencies, and organizations that work to assist individuals with disabilities will increase through training workshops, device presentations, and public information events.
OBJECTIVE:

GOAL 4: Support will continue for the Baton Rouge and Shreveport Assistive Technology Device Demonstration Centers.
OBJECTIVE:
•To provide a place where individuals with disabilities and others can view and tryout an array of up-to-date assistive technology devices that would benefit them in their environments.
