           The LEH has a half-century track record of advancing public humanities and supporting cultural institutions across Louisiana. Our network includes over 1400 entities across all sixty-four parishes including our museums, universities and affiliated humanities departments and centers, historic sites, archives, media groups, festivals, cultural centers, libraries, indigenous tribes, and cultural content producers, all of whom make up the diverse network of our broader cultural landscape.

Our culture not only enhances the quality of life of every Louisianan, but it also builds communities, drives the economy, and educates locals and the world about our State’s and its people’s important contributions to the nation and the world. Much like every other major industry, our cultural heritage requires investment not only for preservation purposes but also for quality of life, innovation and growth across all 64 parishes.

At LEH, we serve all Louisianians across 64 parishes and support local organizations and initiatives that our citizens care about, including schools, cultural festivals, and many others. We are also the publisher of our state’s award-winning chronicle of history and culture, 64 Parishes magazine, and its companion digital encyclopedia, 64parishes.org. With a global readership, our content reaches Louisiana enthusiasts and readers from 222 countries and 6 continents.

Proposed Project: Anchor the LEH as the statewide cultural infrastructure supports mechanism. The LEH has a 50+-year history of supporting our museums, historic sites, archives, media groups, festivals, cultural centers, libraries, indigenous tribes, and cultural content producers, all of whom make up the diverse and delicate network of our broader cultural landscape. Our network includes over 1400 partner entities across all 64 parishes. Our plan acknowledges that new sustainability models are needed for innovation and growth and that frequent disasters will continue to threaten our communities.

As a leading advocate for emergency readiness, the LEH will:
1. Implement a coordinated effort to ensure sustainability planning support is made available to the sector through our effective and efficient grants program.
2. Facilitate disaster and emergency planning, technical training, and rapid response mitigation support for all critical cultural organizations for when disaster strikes.
3. Provide programming that supports teachers, students, and families in all 64 parishes in boosting cultural literacy and family literacy.
4. Document local histories and expand access and public engagement in meaningful digital, print and community-based modalities and experiences.

As a leading statewide provider of resources and training for the cultural sector and education supports that reaches all of Louisiana’s 64 parishes, the LEH sees a great need for its services to be expanded. Leveraging state funds with other funding available, the LEH will work to ensure that our cultural infrastructure—its institutions and people—is preserved and supported in planning for a more sustainable and vibrant future.
At LEH, we serve all Louisianians across 64 parishes and support local organizations and initiatives that our citizens care about. Recent accomplishments include:
• Economic impact: We have created and preserved 651 cultural sector jobs.
• Education impact: In partnership with the Louisiana Department of Education, we have provided more than 130,000 students with Freedom Framework Social Studies Standards-aligned Louisiana history resources, trained 248 social studies teachers.
• Cultural impact: We have supported over 400 community organizations in upgrading their emergency readiness and delivering the cultural programming that Louisiana is known for at home and internationally.
As a leading provider of humanities education initiatives around the state, the LEH believes that access to high quality education is a right. Through initiatives such as Prime Time Family Reading and the Institute for Louisiana Culture and History, LEH provides critical support to our schools, teachers, and students. Prime Time Family Reading provides research-based, and outcomes driven family engagement and literacy supports to Louisiana’s families and the new Institute for Louisiana Culture and History is a statewide educational hub providing reliable, accessible Louisiana social studies resources to K–12 students and their teachers.

Louisiana has seen significant education improvements, ranking first nationally in reading growth and recovering strongly from pandemic learning loss, with students in some areas even surpassing pre-pandemic math and reading levels. Key achievements include substantial jumps in rankings on The Nation's Report Card (NAEP), top-five national placement for math growth, and recognition as a national leader in reading recovery. These gains are attributed to focused efforts on early literacy, evidence-based practices, and strong teacher support. This means we must continue to advance the state-level strategies that are showing results!
