Provide a summary of the project or program:
The Mu Zeta Foundation, Inc. headquarters is located at 2021 Harding Boulevard, Baton Rouge, Louisiana The Mu Zeta Foundation meeting facility constructed in 1980 is 2200 square feet, featuring a foyer, large reception area, two restrooms, a fully furnished kitchen, a corridor, and three storage rooms. The facility serves as home to many philanthropic endeavors such as assisting lower income women in receiving early and regular prenatal care to give babies a healthy start in life, facilitation of scholarship disbursement to deserving area students, mentoring and tutelage services to K-12 students, meal preparations for the homeless and seniors within the community, and culture endeavors for non-degreed women.

While the facility has served the needs of the organization since 1980, it is limited in internal spacing for all the endeavors that the Foundation undertakes. Specifically, adhering to best practice recommendations from Mentoring.org, a nationally leading resource on youth mentorship, recommends that mentored youth are separated by age groups. This recommendation has been difficult to implement with the facility's current spacing. The ability to render other services are also limited by space to the populations served such as indigent pregnant women, seniors, and the homeless. The Foundation must limit the number of clienteles served because of the limited space of the facility. Therefore, Capital Outlay funds are being requested to expand the facility to allow for additional space to be added so that the current cadre of services can be offered and expanded to meet the needs of the clientele serviced by the Foundation. The $300,000 funds requested are solely for planning and expansion construction costs. These funds are supplemented by the required 25% ($75,000) match which is on hand by the Foundation. The public good associated with this project centers on increasing knowledge through rendering philanthropic services to the Greater Baton Rouge community, which may be difficult to provide by the city and state, due to the expansive, ever-growing needs of the citizenry. We seek to serve as a means of mitigating public needs through our initiatives to help enhance or improve the lives of the clientele we meet, who seek out our services. The Foundation services are provided through member donations. The funds requested will allow the expansion of the facility to enable more people to be served. Costs for operating the Foundation are low due to member volunteerism.
