CHAPTER 20. DEPARTMENT OF STATE
§741. Department of State; creation; domicile; purposes and functions
A. The Department of State is created and shall be a body corporate with the power
to sue and be sued. The domicile of the department shall be in East Baton Rouge Parish.
B. The secretary of state shall serve as the executive head and chief administrative
officer of the Department of State and shall have the responsibility for the policies of the
department and for the administration, control, and operation of the functions, programs, and
affairs of the department as provided by law.
C. The Department of State shall be responsible for performing the functions of the
secretary of state as provided by law, including those functions of the commissioner of
elections transferred to the Department of State and to the secretary of state.
