Provide a summary of the project or program:
This project is for a facility or possibly multiple facilities to house the Senior Center and Council on Aging Administrative space to
provide meals, recreation, and wellness programs and other essential services for senior citizens. At the current stage of planning
the Pointe Coupee Council on Aging is considering new construction. The project will be located at the site of the Pointe Coupee Health Services District No.1, which is a political subdivision of both the Pointe Coupee
Parish Government. The proposed project site is on Memorial Blvd. in New Roads. Pointe Coupee Council on Aging will purchase the property from Point Coupee Health Services District, the cost is estimated to be about $175,000. Currently the Pointe Coupee Council on Aging is operating out of two buildings on the Pointe Coupee General Hospital campus, which are owned by the Pointe Coupee Health Service District No. 1. The current facilities are very old, with only one bathroom for seniors, and the buildings are in need of major renovation. It is determined that renovation is not feasible to meet the project goal, then new construction will be pursued or a combination of both renovation and new construction. New facilities will enable us to attract more seniors to participate in the overall wellness programs and services that we offer. The project scope is in the process of being developed, but at this point in the planning process, we are planning for site manager office, restrooms, dining room, wellness/activity room, kitchen, supply room, waiting
room, director's office, assistant director's office, reception area, bookkeeper's office, service coordinator's office, program
assistant's office, workers room, training room, storage/file room, meeting room. Pointe Coupee Health Services District has
agreed to fund additional operating costs after project is completed.
