What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
The Louisiana Leadership Institute (LLI) is a nonprofit educational and community development organization whose public purpose is to empower, educate, and equip Louisiana’s youth—particularly underserved and at-risk populations—with the skills, resources, and experiences necessary to succeed academically, socially, and professionally. Through a comprehensive array of academic, leadership, arts, technology, and recreational programming, LLI serves as a vehicle for developing 21st-century leaders prepared to thrive in a global, competitive society.
State funding will allow LLI to continue expanding its programs to meet the evolving educational and developmental needs of youth across the state. The organization’s purpose is firmly rooted in public benefit, addressing key statewide priorities including improving academic outcomes, closing achievement gaps, increasing access to STEM education, and providing safe, structured environments where young people can grow as leaders and productive citizens.
LLI’s Academic and STEM Programs are designed to provide equitable educational support to students in grades K–12. The Virtual Tutoring and Online Learning Platform offers ACT prep, homework help, and targeted academic remediation. The Mathematics Tutoring Program, supported by iReady software, delivers one-on-one instruction aimed at boosting proficiency in core math concepts and preparing students for standardized LEAP testing. These services directly support Louisiana’s education goals by enhancing academic achievement and promoting college and career readiness.
LLI also addresses the urgent need for STEM workforce development through its Robotics and Drones Programs. These initiatives expose students to engineering, computer science, aeronautics, and related technologies—sectors critical to the state's economic future. Hands-on, project-based learning not only promotes technological literacy, but also encourages critical thinking, collaboration, and innovation—skills vital in today’s economy.
The organization’s Leadership Development Program provides 52 weekly classes focused on public speaking, social interaction, civic responsibility, and decision-making. These skills are essential for personal success and community engagement, fostering a generation of leaders who are empowered to contribute meaningfully to their schools, families, and neighborhoods.
LLI’s Expanded Music and Arts Programming adds significant public value by supporting cultural education, creative expression, and discipline through Marching Band, Jazz Band, Choir, Music Production, and Video Production classes. These programs cultivate talent, build confidence, and offer youth constructive outlets to express themselves while developing marketable skills in digital media and performing arts.
Finally, Recreational and Enrichment Programs such as basketball, step team, theatre, and dance promote healthy living, teamwork, and social development. These offerings provide a positive and structured alternative to idle time, reducing the risks associated with juvenile delinquency and disengagement.
In sum, the Louisiana Leadership Institute’s public purpose is to prepare Louisiana’s youth to become educated, confident, and civic-minded individuals. With support from state funding, LLI can expand its reach to serve 500 students annually, delivering critical programs that align with state education, workforce, and youth development goals. The Institute’s mission is not only to develop individual success stories, but also to contribute to a stronger, more resilient Louisiana by investing in the next generation of leaders.
