What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
The St. Martin Council on Aging, Inc. provides more than 39,000 meals to nearly 200 homebound or disabled seniors through its Home-delivered Meals Program. Information received from client intake forms reflects that these recipients typically have no other means of receiving meals and are alone, isolated, and in need of socialization.

90% of the nearly 200 individuals served through the Home-delivered Meals Program are usually unable to cook for themselves or have no one else to provide a meals, as many of their adult children do not live within close proximity or they have no other living relatives. Without home-delivered meals, recipients might not eat at all. This could possibly result in malnutrition and, eventually, a loss of independence, as the individual may begin to require specialized care.

Due to budget constraints, there are currently 150 individuals awaiting meals.

St. Martin Parish Council on Aging, Inc. is the sole provider of public transportation in the parish. More than 11,000 rides are provided to individuals for much needed medical appointments and necessary errands such as picking up medications or groceries. 65% of those rides are provided to elderly individuals; 30% of these elderly individuals are Medicaid recipients.

Currently, budget constraints prevent the expansion of transportation to other, more remote areas of the parish.

Anticipated funding would help us to remove more more individuals anticipating receiving home-delivered meals from waiting lists and to provide transportation to those who currently have no access to it.

What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
The goal of the St. Martin Parish Council on Aging, Inc. is to strengthen the services that we are currently providing, so that we can continue to ensure the mobility, independence, dignity, security, comfort, and well-being of our elderly population. Removing individuals from waiting lists for meals and other services, and being able to provide more transportation to those who so desperately need it would help us to accomplish this goal.

What is the proposed length of time estimated by the entity to accomplish the purpose?
           1 year
