           Southeast Louisiana Legal Services provides free civil legal assistance to low-income people in 22 parishes in southeast Louisiana with critical problems in the area of family law, domestic violence, housing, consumer benefits, employment law, tax, foreclosure prevention, landlord-tenant, successions, and other legal problems. We help improve the lives of vulnerable people and to strengthen communities in Ascension, Assumption, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberville, Jefferson, Lafourche, Livingston, Orleans, Plaquemines, Point Coupee, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. Helena, St.John, St. James, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Terrebonne, Washington, West Baton Rouge, and West Feliciana parishes.

What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
          To provide and expand civil legal aid to families whose income is at or below federal poverty guidelines who cannot otherwise afford to access civil legal services. This includes domestic violence survivors, workers impacted by COVID-19 and natural disasters, veterans, formerly incarcerated citizens, abused/neglected children, homeless people, people living with disabilities, seniors, and other vulnerable populations. Civil legal aid is an often overlooked but essential solution to helping strengthen communities, improve public safety, stabilize families in crisis, and protect vulnerable people.

What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
          1) To increase access to justice by increasing staff attorneys to represent low-income people in our 22 parish service area
2) To handle 1,000 or more civil cases for low-income people to help improve their lives
3) To provide at least 50 new community legal education and legal clinic events across our 22 parish service area
4) To obtain at least $3 million in direct economic benefits for our clients as a result of the increased resources supporting our work
