           GRG WILL provide services to grandparents (and other kinship care providers)raising grandchildren in Louisiana so the grandchildren in the care of their grandparents will have the necessary food, support information, services, clothing and shelter, and a loving home.

What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
          The mission of the GRGICL is to offer support and information to kinship caregivers in order to keep children out of the public foster care system, and strengthen kinship families so that the children being raised within these families can develop a sense of security and ultimately increase their self-identity and self-respect.

What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
          The goal of the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Information Center of Louisiana (GRG) is to improve the quality of life for Louisiana’s kinship caregivers and the children in their care, and to provide concrete services, information and support to grandparents raising grandchildren in order for them to provide a safe and thriving environment for their grandchildren.

Without GRG services and supports to grandfamilies, many more children are at risk of entering the foster care system, which in effect removes the child from family supports and increases the cost to the state's budget through foster care supports. Currently, for every child in foster care raised by a kinship caregiver, there are 39 children being raised by a grandparents or other kinship care provider. These families need continued supports and concrete services to assure the grandchildren will continue in their care.

Studies show that children, when not able to be reared by parents, receive significant benefits from living with other kin, including greater stability and life satisfaction, greater chance of being reunited with their birth parents, and they feel more “normal” and loved living with their relatives. The provision of education, support, information, and referral to community resources provided by GRG are all contributors to stopping any further abuse or neglect.
