           Program supports a portion of the operations of Louisiana's only maritime museum. Additionally, the museum is the body responsible for restoration and maintenance of the Tchefuncte River Lighthouse. A portion of the funds will go to the second phase of the restoration of the lighthouse which is the A&E study required to complete the restoration in accordance with the National Park Service guidelines for historic structures.

What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
          Maritime Museum Louisiana (MMLA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is organized for educational purposes. It is the only Maritime Museum in the State of Louisiana and strive to educate the public about the maritime heritage of the state, as well inform the public about current trends in the states maritime industry. We accomplish this through interactive exhibits, displays of acquired artifacts, films, dioramas and photos.

What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
          Louisiana's maritime industry is a primary driver of our economy and yet is known as the "invisible industry" because much of it happens out of eyesight of the general public. MMLA's mission is to shine a spotlight on the industry and make the public aware of its importance to the state economy. In addition to that effort, MMLA is the keeper of the Tchefuncte River Lighthouse. In an agreement with the Town of Madisonville, the MMLA is responsible for the restoration and upkeep of the structure. The USCG maintains the light itself, as it still an active aid to navigaton.
