What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
As the only Food Bank operating in our 11-parish service area, we are providing a necessity to food insecure individuals, families, and seniors. Food insecurity is defined as not having access to enough food to ensure all members of the household can live an active, healthy lifestyle. Food insecurity is a social determinant of health and can lead to critical health conditions. Even though we distributed 12 million meals last year, our service area currently has a 22 million meal gap. The meal gap reflects the number of meals needed in our region to eliminate food security as a major concern. The need remains great and we are committed to serving as many people as possible and increasing our services when we are able.
What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
Our goal is to ensure our food insecure neighbors have access to nutritious food to provide meals well-balanced meals for their families. Relieving the burden of food costs each month can ensure struggling neighbors can purchase other basic needs such as medicine and utilities.
What is the proposed length of time estimated by the entity to accomplish the purpose?
this is an annual program
