Provide a summary of the project or program:
On behalf of the Bossier Council on Aging, I respectfully submit this request for a $50,000 one-time appropriation to enhance our Home Delivered Meals program for older adults in Bossier Parish.
Bossier Council on Aging is currently required to serve meals 250 days per year and has extended service to 260 using available resources. However, this leaves a gap of 105 days during which meals are not provided, primarily due to funding limitations. With the requested funding, we can significantly narrow that gap and move toward the goal of year-round meal service for home delivered meal clients.
This appropriation would allow us to increase the number of meals delivered from 10 meals every two weeks to 14 meals every two weeks for all enrolled seniors—ensuring daily nutrition for every homebound client. Based on current costs, the $50,000 will sustain this enhanced service for approximately five months. We are committed to using local funding sources to extend the coverage by at least one additional month, resulting in six consecutive months of daily meals for every senior enrolled in the program.
This strategic use of one-time funds will have an immediate and meaningful impact on the health, safety, and dignity of vulnerable older adults in Bossier Parish. It supports their ability to age in place, reduces emergency medical interventions, and combats food insecurity and isolation.

The public purpose of the Bossier Council on Aging, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies, is:
To promote the health, nutrition, and well-being of older adults in Bossier Parish by reducing food insecurity, supporting independent living, and preventing premature institutionalization through the delivery of consistent, nutritionally balanced meals to homebound seniors.
This purpose aligns with the state’s broader goals of improving public health, reducing healthcare and long-term care costs, and supporting aging in place for Louisiana's senior population.
