Big River Economic and Agricultural Development Alliance (BREADA) has a mission to connect farmers and food producers to economic opportunities; families to fresh, healthy food; and people to a vibrant quality of life. BREADA operates 130 farmers markets per year in the Baton Rouge region that connect rural farmers from 15 parishes to a sustainable livelihood.
What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
Recruit Farmers
Provide financial and educational tools to farmers. Seek, cultivate and support new farmers as others retire. Secure new farmers through as a valuable economic and community partner.
Create Food Security
Provide opportunities to under-resourced community members through its Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Match Advocacy and Mobile Market.
Provide Meaningful Connections
Host farmers markets (year-round and seasonal) and operate the renovated Main Street Market to provide community interaction and connection for our region.

Conduct nutrition education and obesity prevention services. The program focuses on helping participants stretch their SNAP dollars, shop for and learn to cook healthy meals, and lead physically active lifestyles. The program aims to reach people across different age groups with culturally appropriate programs tailored to preschoolers, school-aged youth, adults and seniors.
