Provide a summary of the project or program:
The goal of this project is to increase stormwater literacy, improve stormwater management practices, and strengthen disaster preparedness in the Hollygrove-Dixon neighborhood. The project builds on community engagement surveys and the work conducted by the 17th Ward Coalition's Community Action Board.
Literacy: We will host an eight-month educational series focused on Green Infrastructure and Disaster Preparedness. We will also take residents on fact-finding visits to communities that have successfully implemented green infrastructure projects and established disaster preparedness centers.
Practices: We will strengthen our community's disaster resilience hub, known as the Lighthouse, at the Life Transformation Community Center. We will also maintain an existing stormwater management practice and install a new stormwater management demonstration lot.
By combining education with hands-on learning and visible examples in our own neighborhood, residents will gain a better understanding of how these practices work, why they matter, and how they can help protect their homes and community from flooding and other climate-related hazards.

What is the entity's public purpose, sought to be achieved through the use of state monies?
The purpose of the Hollygrove-Dixon Neighborhood Association is to strengthen and protect the Hollygrove-Dixon neighborhood and its residents from adverse challenges. This program supports this by educating residents how to protect themselves during storms and providing a place for more vulnerable residents to sustain themselves during a disaster.

What are the goals and objectives for achieving such purpose?
The primary goal of this project is to build a more informed, prepared, and resilient Hollygrove-Dixon community by increasing residents' knowledge of stormwater management and disaster preparedness while providing practical examples and resources they can use to protect themselves and their neighborhood.

Our objectives are to:

Increase stormwater literacy and disaster preparedness. Conduct an eight-month educational series covering green infrastructure, stormwater management, and disaster preparedness. Residents will learn how flooding occurs, what practices can help reduce stormwater runoff, and what steps they can take to prepare their households for severe weather.

Provide opportunities for residents to learn from other communities. Organize fact-finding visits to communities with established green infrastructure projects and disaster preparedness centers. These visits will allow residents to see successful practices firsthand and explore solutions that could be applied in Hollygrove-Dixon.

Strengthen the neighborhood's disaster resilience hub. Improve the Lighthouse at the Life Transformation Community Center to better serve residents, particularly seniors and other vulnerable individuals, during emergencies. These improvements will help strengthen the neighborhood's ability to respond to disasters and provide community-based support.

Demonstrate effective stormwater management practices. Maintain an existing green infrastructure installation and develop a new stormwater management demonstration lot. These sites will provide residents with visible, hands-on examples of how green infrastructure can manage stormwater, reduce runoff, and help address neighborhood flooding.

Encourage residents to put their knowledge into practice. Use the educational sessions, fact-finding visits, and demonstration sites to help residents identify stormwater management and disaster preparedness practices they can implement at home and throughout the neighborhood.

Through these objectives, the project will help residents move beyond simply learning about flooding and disaster preparedness to understanding and applying practical solutions that strengthen the resilience of the entire community.

What is the proposed length of time estimated by the entity to accomplish the purpose?
           12 months
