Provide a summary of the project or program:
Sacred Hearts Hospice House (SHHH) is developing a three-bed, home-like residential end-of-life care program in Bogalusa to serve Washington Parish and surrounding rural communities. The program is intended for terminally ill individuals who cannot safely or practically remain in their current homes. SHHH will provide accommodations, meals, 24-hour supervision, permitted assistance with daily living, companionship, emotional and spiritual support, and a welcoming environment for families. Each resident’s licensed hospice provider will provide clinical hospice services and prepare and manage the resident’s plan of care.
SHHH requests $200,000 in state General Appropriation support for facility preparation, renovations, safety and accessibility improvements, resident furnishings, equipment, and operational setup. The total estimated startup budget is $215,650, and the combined startup and first-year operating budget is $566,586. The remaining $366,586 will be sought through charitable grants, donations, sponsorships, fundraising, and in-kind support and is not represented as secured funding.
SHHH plans to operate in accordance with the conditions established by Louisiana Act 453 of 2026, codified at La. R.S. 40:2183.1. The nonprofit will accommodate no more than three residents at a time in individual private bedrooms. Accommodations and services will be provided without charge to residents or their families, and SHHH will receive no payments from Medicare, Medicaid, or other public or private health insurance.
At full operation, SHHH projects serving approximately 30–40 residents annually, depending on residents’ lengths of stay, occupancy, staffing, and available funding. The program will serve eligible individuals without discrimination and coordinate with licensed hospice providers, healthcare organizations, families, and community partners.
