§416.19. School resource officers
A. Any city, parish, or other local public school system and any nonpublic school
may make or enter into agreements with a local law enforcement agency to provide for
school resource officers. Any city, parish, or other local public school system and any
nonpublic school shall ensure that any school resource officer provided by a local law
enforcement agency as provided in this Section is in compliance with the provisions of
Subsection B of this Section.
B.(1) A "school resource officer" shall be a peace officer as defined in R.S. 40:2402.
(2) A "school resource officer" shall be certified by a nationally accredited school
resource officer program or a state school resource officer training program certified by the
Council on Peace Officer Standards and Training.
C. The Council on Peace Officer Standards and Training shall review and approve
any advanced, in-service, or specialized training for school resource officers as the council
shall deem advisable.
D. A city, parish, or other local public school system that has entered into an
agreement with a local law enforcement agency to provide for school resource officers shall
annually report to the state Department of Education the total number of school resource
officers provided to the system.
