§3715. Management of fund; salary deductions; action of board to be final; meetings
A. The board shall have charge of the fund. The board shall assess each member of
the police department an amount not to exceed nine percent of his salary excluding overtime
pay but including state supplemental pay which shall be deducted monthly. This assessment
is to be deposited by the treasurer of the fund in a depository chosen by the board and subject
to the orders of the board. The city of Shreveport shall, in addition to those funds deposited
pursuant to R.S. 11:3712, appropriate and pay over into said fund annually a sum in the
identical amount as that total sum paid over into the fund from the payroll deductions of all
employees of the police department as described in this Subsection.
B. The board shall make regulations for its government and hear and decide all
applications for relief or pensions under this Subpart. Its decision on applications shall be
final and conclusive and not be subject to review or reversal except by the board. The board
shall, within thirty days after an application is made by a member, pass upon said application
and notify the member. If no notice is received within thirty days from date of filing of said
application, the application shall be considered automatically approved. The board shall
keep a record of all its meetings and proceedings. The board shall meet at least once
annually and when called by the president or secretary.
C. The board may retain legal, actuarial, accounting, investment, medical, clerical,
or other services as may be necessary for the conduct of the affairs of the fund and fix the
rate of compensation for those services.
