§50. Salary as recommended by the Judicial Compensation Commission
Pursuant to the Judicial Compensation Commission's report dated January 9, 2018:
(1) Subject to the provisions of Paragraph (3) of this Section, the actual salary of the
judges of the supreme court, courts of appeal, and district courts shall be increased by two
and one-half percent on July first of 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023.
(2) Subject to the provisions of Paragraph (3) of this Section, the state-paid actual
salary of the judges of city courts and parish courts shall be increased by two and one-half
percent on July first of 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023.
(3)(a) The salary increases authorized by Paragraphs (1) and (2) of this Section shall
be contingent upon approval prior to each July first by the Louisiana Supreme Court and the
Louisiana Judicial Budgetary Control Board, after each has made a determination that the
judiciary has sufficient funding from the state and other sources to fund the salary increases
prior to approving the increases.
(b) Any salary increase authorized pursuant to this Section for Fiscal Year 2020 shall
be funded by the judiciary.
(4) Effective July 1, 2020, any local or state official eligible for compensation
pursuant to the provisions of R.S. 13:5521 shall not be eligible for a salary increase pursuant
to the provisions of this Section for that same fiscal year.
